The Only Wild Monkeys in Europe


In the latest episode of Vox’s “Borders” series, journalist Johnny Harris visits Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory on the southern coast of Spain, to hang out with Gibraltar’s Barbary macaque monkeys, the only population of wild monkeys in Europe.

“They’ve lived on the island for hundreds of years, and have become part of its history, but nobody knows how they got there. Their origin is shrouded in legend.”
