Panda Enjoys a Bubble Bath

In this short but cute clip, Tian Tian (pronounced tee-YEN tee-YEN), the 18-year-old giant panda from Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington D.C., was provided a tub filled with a mixture warm water and non-toxic bubble bath soap for his bathing pleasure.

“Tian Tian really soaked it up. He rubbed it on his ears—which is called scent-anointing. (Wait for the tail wiggle!) Pandas do not bathe regularly in the wild, but when Tian Tian is in rut—meaning he’s exhibiting behaviors associated with breeding season—he especially likes to play in water.”
