Baby Black Rhino Plays in Mud for the First Time

The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden in Ohio shared this adorable footage of their new baby black rhinoceros, Kendi, experiencing the joys of wallowing in a mud for the first time.

“Kendi got his first taste of a mud wallow today after all the rain from yesterday. He certainly seems to be a fan. Wallowing in mud is a favorite pastime for rhinos. The more caked they are, the happier they appear. It is imperative that calves are trained to mud-wallow effectively because the mud protects their skin from the sun, it cools them off, and it wards off parasites.”
