Working retail sucks, don’t ever let anyone convince you otherwise. As someone who has worked retail and non-retail jobs I can say with certainty that working in retail and customer service is a way harder job than anything else. These people don’t get to sit down and if they’re caught slacking, a manager will appear out of thin air and tell them “if you can lean, you can clean.”
The last thing anyone in retail needs is to have to clean up after another grown adult because they were too lazy to find a garbage can or put a cart back. After the last year having to deal with customers calling them essential and then screaming at them because they didn’t want to follow rules in the same breath, it’s fair to say all retail workers should get to hit one customer a year.
